If the teeth are not aligned then orthodontic treatment should always be considered first to make them straight. Especially if teeth do not need to be removed orthodontic treatment is the least destructive way of correcting the problem. Veneers or crowns, however are sometimes the only suitable cosmetic option. Sometimes a combination of orthodontics and crowns/veneers is recommended. Going through an orthodontic phase of treatment often means that when the teeth are prepared for crowns or veneers the work will be less destructive. Orthodontics does not always mean ‘ugly betty braces’, in some circumstances clear plastic trays which are hardly visible can be used to move teeth around. Dr. RANA MUWAHID BDS, MFDS (RCSEng), MSc (Orthodontics), MOrth (RCSEdin)

Rana Muwahid qualified with a bachelor of dental surgery (BDS) from Jordan in 2002. She worked in Jordan as a general dentist for a year then moved to the UK in 2003. Rana undertook her international qualifying exams and became fully registered at the general dental council in the UK. She also became a member of the faculty of dental surgery (MFDS) of the royal college of surgeons of England in 2004 following a year of training in London. She then joined the Eastman dental hospital and institute at UCL, London in 2004 and undertook 3 years of training in orthodontics. She gained a master of science (MSc) in orthodontics from the university of London in 2006 and later qualified with a membership in orthodontics (MOrth) from the royal college of surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007. Rana also works at the Medway Maritime hospital in Kent as an associate in orthodontics treating complex cases. She is interested in treating children as well as adults with a variety of removable and fixed orthodontic appliances.
Rana also treats selective patients with Invisalign (invisible removable aligners).
