Opening Plans And Patient Safety

Patient update – 12/05/2020

Dear Patients,

I hope you are all well. I’m sure that we all listened carefully and with anticipation to the Prime ministers words on Sunday evening. This period has been difficult for the vast majority of us for various reasons. At least now we have a roadmap guiding us to what will be “Our new Normal” going forward. We are looking at opening our door again to you from early June. Precisely when we are able to re-open will also depend on receiving guidance from the Chief Dental Officer of England and our ability to acquire the suitable protective wear that is required to keep you and staff safe. This unfortunately is no easy task given the demand around the world at the moment. We will be contacting those who require urgent care initially and then those that were forced to cancel in March, April and May. If there is any change to the planned opening period in early June I will let you know.
When you return to the practice you will notice several new protocols designed to keep us all safe. Our intention is to go above and beyond the guidance laid down by the Chief Dental officer of England

  • Pre-screening by way of a questionnaire to check your health status. This will be done via, phone, via email and possibly via our website
  • Please come to your appointment alone if possible.
  • The fees that we apply for late cancellation are waived but if you do need to cancel please let us know as soon as you can. If you fail to attend without cancelling our usual fees will be applied to your account to be paid if you wanted to be seen at the practice again.
  • If we are running late you will be contacted and asked to enter the practice only when we are ready to receive you.
  • When you come to the practice you will be handed a mask, have your temperature checked with a contactless thermometer, provided with hand sanitizer and your medical history and current health status checked again.
  • Waiting room seats will be placed 6 feet apart. The table in front of you will be free of magazines, leaflets and clutter to facilitate cleaning.
  • Please bring your own pen, in case this is required when you come to an appointment.
  • No hand shaking or physical contact beyond what is necessary at the practice.
  • Please do not use our toilets if possible.
  • You will notice that as a result of keeping patients and staff safe a higher level of Personal Protective Equipment will be required by all practice staff. Our practice manager/ reception will be wearing a mask and eye shielding. Clinical staff will also be suitably protected dependent on their role and the nature of the procedure being carried out.
  • only accept card payments and are encouraging contactless payments if possible.
  • Appointment lengths must increase to give us additional time to prepare and to clean.
  • These are just some of the protocols. There are many more clinical and staff protocols that we are bringing in. We have also stepped up the general practice cleaning being carried out during the day and out of hours and will continue with the usual high standards of cross infection control that we employ.

We ask that you show understanding and patience during this time. The defining feature of all these protocols is that they keep us safe. If there is staff sickness for instance or an emergency, appointments may need to be moved or cancelled at short notice, only to ensure the overriding principle of safety. We will of course endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum.
Many of you have become friends to me and to the practice. I am looking forward to seeing you again and being able to fulfill my commitment to take care of all things Dental for you.

    Kind Regards,

    Glafcos Tombolis
    Ethicare Dental
